There are several actions that a player can take involving non-playing characters.
In Stellar Age we can find two groups: Regular pirates and Elite pirates.
Each of these will fulfill different objectives concerning the player and one should find his balance around them.
Regular Pirates
Regular pirate’s levels range from 1 to 30. The first time you defeat a pirate, you will receive a special reward and unlock the possibility to spawn pirates of the next level. Pirates can be found by simply cruising through the galaxy map or by using the spawn widget at the left side of the HUD.

Once you select the widget, you will get a prompt for selecting what pirate and level you wish to spawn. The maximum level will be determined by the following level to the highest pirate you have defeated up to level 30. This means that, for instance, to spawn a level 27 pirate, you must first defeat a level 26 pirate (any of the three factions).
There are three different pirate factions that can be found across the galaxy:
1) Steel Rats (color orange) - these are also known as metal pirates since defeating them grant metal debris as reward, and a chance to spawn a metal wreck
2) Blood Legion (color blue) - these are the polymer pirates.
3) Star Dominion (color green) - these are the antimatter pirates.
Steel Rats and Blood Legion have specific ship types depending on the level (the amount of each ship varies with its power for the same level but the ship types stay the same), so, for example, a level 30 steel rat with 30m power will have Heavy Fighters 2, Battleships 2 and Dreadnoughts 2, a 100m steel rat will have the same 3 ship types, but more ships of each type.
Star Dominion works the same way, but instead of ships, they have towers.

When attacking a pirate (no matter the level) you will spend a base 30 jet. If you recall the attack, you will recover the jet, but if you lose the battle, you won’t.
After defeating a pirate camp you will receive it’s rewards, and if you appointed a commander on the attacking fleet, he (or they in case you sent 2) will receive experience based on the pirate level (pirate power doesn’t affect the amount of experience, only level does).

Elite Pirates
Elite pirates are strong single entities which can only be rallied on. Unlike regular pirates, these are a single powerful unit with unknown damage and armor. Depending on its level, we will have a minimum recommended power to destroy it.
Elite pirates are strong single entities which can only be rallied on. Unlike regular pirates, these are a single powerful unit with unknown damage and armor. Depending on its level, we will have a minimum recommended power to destroy it.
This is an estimated value, keep in mind that power is not what determines how strong you are (remember the formula for determining damage and armor of units); sometimes you may find that attacking them with recommended power will result in a failed attack (early game), sometimes you will win the battle even if you sent less power than recommended (late game). Damage received will be split among the participants proportionally to their power in the overall rally power (or armor, should check this)
Each member of the rally will obtain rewards from the pool for the corresponding Elite level, if victorious.
Elites Pirates can be divided in two groups. Low level elites (level 1 through 5) and high level Elites (level 6 through 10). The first ones are weaker and cost no jet to be attacked, the latter cost 70 base jet for each joining member. They both have different reward pools, with different purposes, so, do check them out before attacking them.
Everytime an Elite Pirate is defeated, a new one will spawn in the vicinity, but it will be 1 level higher than the defeated one was. If an Elite Pirate spawns and is not defeated within 10 minutes, it will vanish and spawn a new one, 1 level lower than the vanished one.
